Children’s Christmas Books – review & win three books! [ended]

I’ve got three really fun festive festive themed books for kids on the blog today, and your chance to win them too! We’ve been reading them over the past week, but I’ve not put them away till a little closer to Christmas to use as part of our book advent in December. Annoyingly when my laptop died the nice photos I had of Athena and I reading them went with it so these are a bit hastily taken! First up is ‘Over the River & Through the Wood’, a lovely hard back book with the most amazing illustrations. It’s a cheery spoof take on the traditional tale (in the states anyway, and originally about Thanksgiving I think!) of a family heading to grandpas house. Lots of different modes of transport are involved to try and get all the family together in one place…

It’s a book that uses rhyme and repetition, and I find Athena loves this sort of book and often after a couple of reads is joining in with the refrains! Each page has SO much detail in the illustrations, so even if you’re not reading the story you can go through the pages pointing things out and exploring the pictures. It’s a definite hit with my toddler, and the baby seems to like the rhyming too! I did have a really sweet photo of the three of us reading this but it got lost when my laptop died!IMG_5769

Next up is the board book ”If its snowy and you know it clap your paws’ which is a festive take on the old favourite ‘If you’re happy and you know it’. This is brilliant as Athena already knew the tune to the original rhyme, so can easily follow along! Lots of wintery creatures gather together to keep warm, finally ending up all toasty in bed! This means it’s a great bedtime story book too!

Last up is Arctic Animals’ a board book with fold down flaps, that helps children to learn about Arctic animals and their characteristics. The images are bold and eye-catching and again, there is a lot too look at on each page. Obviously the fold down flaps help to keep little people interested too!
