Maternity Style: Patterned dress for a birthday night out

I don’t find it easy to feel good (or dare I say it, glamorous even) when I’m this pregnant. My back and hips ache, I can’t wear proper heels and I generally have naff skin too. However when I went out for my birthday meal last Friday I actually felt glamorous, thanks to Happy Mum London & UK Tights!

Firstly the dress, it has such a lovely pattern and a gorgeous cut. Capped sleeves, a round neckline and a contrasting zip to the front (so I can use it for breastfeeding when baby arrives!) all make the Venus dress my new favourite! It’s a nice thick-ish material so it doesn’t ride up or cling in the wrong places and is 97% cotton so really breathable. A concealed zip at the side makes for easy dressing (important when you’ve a large bump to contend with!) When Happy Mum London got in touch to see if I would like to review something I was impressed with the choice, and the variety of new styles. Often maternity clothes stockists in the UK all stock the same few brands so it was lovely to have a whole new range to choose from! They’ve been trading in Europe since 2008 but have just launched in the UK, and about time too! As well as a range of various clothes to last throughout pregnancy, they also have a great range of breastfeeding clothes and even a work out range that you can fit a bump in! Definitely somewhere to check out if you want something different to dress your bump in!

Now tights are the bane of my life, especially when pregnant! You can’t wear normal tights much past week 15 as they roll down under the bump, and maternity tights that fit well are hard to come by. I bought a two pack from H&M that either laddered or got holes in the toes within one wear, so then I tried mothercare, and ended up with a hole in the crotch after one wear (and I accidentally bought a size too big too, so it wasn’t that they were too tight!) UK Tights asked if I wanted to try a pair of their maternity tights out and I agreed, in the hopes that I could find a pair that a) fit and b) didn’t get a hole in within a day! So far so good with these, I’ve worn them for work a couple of times and then with this outfit. They’re Oroblu maternity tights, and although they are tricky to get on as they’re quite well fitting once they’re on they feel really supportive, and don’t roll down or sag anywhere! They’re shaped at the foot and calves, and have a well designed ‘belly’ section too so they don’t dig in and come up well over the bump, and will fit till the end of my pregnancy with any luck!

I was sent the dress and tights in order to review, all  words and opinions my own.

  1. You look absolutely lovely and very glam. Love the dress and it looks like it’s a really good maternity fit, if that makes sense? I like your hair that length, really suits you 🙂 (I know you cut it a while ago now but still!)

  2. The dress looks very elegant. You are right about not having too much choice of maternity wear. The one you have chosen looks like a classic dress which you could wear to work or an evening out.
