Interiors: Monochrome Picture Wall

We’ve been in our home for over six months now, and haven’t done a great deal in the way of decorating. Partly because we can’t decide what to do and partly because we just don’t have the time, inclination or money to do anything major at the moment! However our living room is actually easy to add some personalisation and character to as it has picture rails so we can hang and change pictures around really easily depending on our mood. However we actually hadn’t really put much up yet, but when Desenio got in touch to see if I’d like to try out their prints and frames it seemed like the perfect opportunity to decide on the styles we wanted and to create a feature wall. As much as I love walls with higgledy-piggledy mis-matched picture frames I think the look would make me feel a bit twitchy in my own home, as it tends to get messy quite easily! I figured something more uniform and exact would work well and hopefully be a focal point to draw the eyes away from a sometimes untidy room!

The sheer choice of prints and posters available was a bit overwhelming, I actually got my notepad out and kept track of everything I liked! You can browse through the categories yourself, enter your own search terms or take a look at the ‘perfect pairing’ suggestions. I ended up with a pretty eclectic mix of prints and then whittled out the ones that I didn’t think would fit in so well.. I then decided which ones would look better in larger sizes, and chose the print sizes so I had a mixture. I also picked a few prints that could be landscape to have a mix of orientations. Finally I had to decide on frames, and succumbed to my current obsession of copper for all the frames. As all of the prints were monochrome with a touch of blush in one I figured adding a dash of colour would work well, and they sort of match the picture hooks and wire I used to put them up.

Everything arrived in a box together, frames in bubble wrap and prints secure in a strong cardboard tube. The frames aren’t particularly sturdy but better than I expected for the relatively low price. It’s really easy to clip the picture frames together once you’ve popped your print in and the configuration on the back means they can be hung either way with ease. The two small postcard frames can also be freestanding too.

So here’s a little insight into why I picked out these prints:

The World Map – because wonderlust is a wonderful thing!

A stack of books – Because I love to get lost in a good book, and my children love to read too

Flock of Birds – symbolises freedom but also togetherness

Anchor – Sam loves to sail

You are really awesome – Because we all need a reminder!

Phases of the moon – Athena is semi-obsessed with the moon. She will always point it out when she sees it, especially when it is still ‘awake’ and visible in the mornings!

Graphic Heart, Ampersand & graphic triangles – I just loved how they looked.

And do you know what? Once we had everything hung up (with a bit of swearing and snapping at each other till everything looked neat) Sam and I both stepped back and really loved how it looked! We’ve got complete freedom to move things around too, thanks to the picture rail, as we’ve not had to put holes in the walls at all!

  1. I love that anchor and book print. They are wonderful. I love creating features with prints and feel you can change up any room with just a few prints and frames 🙂

  2. Looks like a great job, love the frames and the monochrome choice, I’ve only moved as well and planning on a blogging office corner so your post is really what I needed to read this morning.xx
