Recipe: Slow Cooker Fudge

slow cooker fudge recipeThis recipe is one of the easiest sweet treats to make ever! I love using my slow cooker for things other than stews (and mulled cider!) and this is a scrumptious recipe that you can amend to your hearts content! This recipe is for Oreo fudge but there is a list of other things you could use at the end of the post for inspiration. This is a great idea for extra Christmas presents for people, especially colleagues and teachers when you might need to keep costs down! You can buy presentation boxes or see through bags and tie up with a ribbon.

You will need:

A slow cooker
400g of chocolate (milk or dark works best)
1 can of condensed milk
1 tbsp. unsalted butter
1 pack of Oreos

Method:

  • Open the tin of condensed milk and pour it into your slow cooker
  • Break your chocolate into chunks and drop them in too, giving the mixture a stir
  • Add in your butter and then turn the slow cooker on to low
  • Every 10 minutes give the mixture a stir, you need to have it on a low heat for around an hour, enough for all the chocolate to melt but not to heat up too much.
  • After an hour turn the heat off and add 6 crumbled Oreo biscuits into the mix and stir well
  • Pour this mixture into a greased or lined baking tin, cut the rest of your Oreo biscuits in half or quarters and push them into the top of the fudge so they stand on end
  • Put it in the fridge overnight to set, then the next morning you can cut it up and enjoy it!

Alternate flavour/decoration ideas:

Skittles, Malteasers, fudge pieces, honeycomb, gummy bears, white chocolate chips (stir in once you’ve removed from the heat), white chocolate buttons look great on top too.

You can experiment with the type of chocolate you use (a high percentage cocoa works quite well but I’d advise to use only 200g at most and mix with a normal cooking chocolate) and use regular flavours like mint, vanilla essence and coffee to flavour the body of your fudge, then you can decorate however you like!
