Alfresco with Tesco Clubcard

Much as at the start of last week I thought summer would never arrive I think it’s safe to say after a bit of sunburn and a weekend spent outside in the sun that it definitely has! We just have to hope it sticks around now!

20150607_173700Tesco Clubcard have brought back their amazing Boost scheme so you can get even more for your points and get whatever you need to really kick off your summer! With Clubcard Boost at Tesco, every £5 worth of Clubcard vouchers gets you £10 to spend and you can double your voucher value! Take a look at the Tesco Boost website to find out more and to see the departments you can spend in, and you can spend online or instore! When we were expecting Arlo I doubled all our points and bought the majority of his first sized outfits in the January sale, saving myself heaps of money! If you like to eat out you can turn £2.50 worth of vouchers into £10 to spend at some of Tescos partners, like Pizza Express, Sealife Centre, Cafe Rouge & more!

As it was Athenas birthday at the weekend we decided to head to the beach and spend the afternoon there eating tasty food and enjoying each others company! Planning for anything with two children can cause a bit of a headache at the best of times, but I really want to make sure that as a family we make the most of living on the coast and also enjoying living on the South Downs too! Not sure about anyone else but spending time outside seems to make us all extra peckish, but buying food out gets pretty expensive! To save money and enable us to experience more we need to get better at organising ourselves for a day out with all the food and bits and bobs we need! Tesco came to the rescue and let me put together our ‘al fresco food survival kit’ that should last as all summer, and many more to come! TescoBoostHere’s what we used to kick our summer off in style with an Al fresco meal with friends! A classic white picnic basket complete with proper plates and cutlery, colourful plastic plates and bowls, a jug and glasses for cooled drinks, napkins, a kneeling pad for the BBQ chef, a picnic rug and of course the most important item, a portable turquoise BBQ to cook all the food on!

Disclosure: I was able to choose items from Tesco online to use for our Al fresco afternoon. All words and opinions are my own.

  1. Look online for what’s on for families in your local area – many Fayres/exhibitions/family days are free and a good day out. Picnics are also a cheap day out – take a ball and a selection of picnic goodies and the kids will come home feeling healthy and more tired for bed!

  2. Keep an eye on social media! Loads of people post on Facebook or blogs about great days out they’ve had – I’ve had some amazing experiences using blogs as inspiration 🙂

  3. Keep an eye out for Family Days Out and places to eat vouchers – it often gives me ideas for things to do and new places to see which we often fall in love with 🙂

  4. Planning ahead and keeping a list of ‘What’s on’ in my local area on the fridge, stocking up on wet wipes (essential for days out), sun-cream, a list of picnic ideas, picnic gear to hand, etc.

  5. Have some meat for BBQs stashed away in the freezer – you never know when the sun might come out!

  6. Have a fun day with the kids – seeing what you can do for free – it’s amazing the amount of fun you can have for no money.

  7. make sure you plan ahead of your trip or whatever you decide to do and have a plan B as you know it can rain anytime
