What the kids read & Win a Roald Dahl cushion

Here’s what Athena has been reading recently…

Colours & Numbers by  Alain Grée rrp £9.99 each, available from Button Books

These gorgeous hardback books are perfect for introducing colours and numbers to little people, and as the book progresses go into quite a lot of depth on each subject! The colours book talks about light and dark shades, and mixing. The Numbers book makes multiplication and division easy to understand by using fun pictures and stories. Athena would obviously have to be a super advanced just-turned-two-year-old to understand these parts but for the moment she is loving the pictures and turning the pages to see what’s next! These are definitely books to treasure as they’ll be helpful in the future when she starts getting homework! Making educational books look more like picture and story books is definitely a great idea!

Time for a Hug is another semi educational book that helps to teach numbers in a fun way, detailing all the times during the day when it’s time for a hug! Its also great for helping children to learn routine and some day to day activities. Plus it has rabbits in it, so Athena does ‘bunny ears’ whenever we read it! It’s available on Amazon.

Now calling your child Athena means there is a significant lack of things you can buy with their name on (I’m thinking those pens and keyrings you get as souvenirs!) so when I heard about the ‘Lost my name’ books I couldn’t resist and they kindly sent one for Athena which I gave her on her 2nd birthday! In the book a little girl wakes to find she’s lost her name, then goes on some amazing adventures to get the letters back. So each book is completely unique based on the name of the child. The artwork is gorgeous too, full colour and very unique. Aimed at children from 2 upwards I think any child would want to keep this on their shelves for years to come! You can see a preview of the book before ordering and change the message inside the cover, so you could put who it was from, for example. Take a look at the Lost my Name book website and see what story you can make!

Continuing on a literary theme I have a amazing ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ book shaped pillow to give away to one lucky person! It is a gorgeous vibrant purple and has a quote from the book inside too! Athena is in love with hers and it now lives in her bed! House of Fraser have a whole range of Roald Dahl styles in their cushion department to choose from too.

Athena was lucky enough to be sent copies of each of these books to read and enjoy, and for me to review. All words and opinions are my own.
