The wonder of waterfalls – what to know about visiting Niagara Falls

When you go on holiday to the United States, you might want to take in as many tours and experiences as possible. Although the way of life may be fairly similar to that found in the United Kingdom, some of the sights may be vastly different.

Visiting Niagara Falls can be an absolutely breath-taking experience. However, when doing so, there may be certain aspects that you want to take into account. This could help to make both the event and your overall trip that much more enjoyable.

Getting there

You may not be staying directly next to the waterfall during your stay, but that doesn’t mean you can’t visit. It is possible to take a trip from NYC to Niagara Falls and spend a night or two of your holiday here. That can allow you to make the most of the landscape, and take in everything the area has to offer. Booking this in advance can ensure that there are still places available when you want to go. You may be able to have tours from a guide, who could help you to see not only the waterfall but also other great sights and experiences within the area.

When to go

If seeing Niagara Falls is one of your main reasons for your holiday, you may want to carefully plan when you go. Generally speaking, many may recommend travelling between June and August, as this is when the weather is more likely to be pleasant. Due to this, you may have clearer views of the falls, although this can never be guaranteed.

Going in winter may be cheaper, especially if you travel during the school term time, but it can result in freezing temperatures and potentially obscured views. However, realistically you may need to factor your budget into your choice. If you really want to go at the best time, it could be a good idea to hold off for another year to allow yourself to save up and go during the summer.

What to take

Unsurprisingly, it can be incredibly wet near the falls. Not only could you end up saturated due to splashes, but there is also the chance of downpours. Dressing appropriately can be a good idea, even during warmer weather.

Wearing waterproof clothing might be helpful if you don’t want to spend the rest of your day sodden. It can also be beneficial to wear waterproof boots, and even take a hat or gloves. After you’ve gotten close to the falls, these could then be stored in a backpack. You may also want to take photos. Not putting your phone or camera in direct spray or, better yet, having a waterproof case or cover, could help to prevent them from being ruined.

Niagara Falls can be a spectacular attraction to visit during your holiday to the United States. You could still stay in one of the major cities, such as New York, and be able to include this excursion within your itinerary.
