This is a collaborative post.
This week I packed away my birkenstocks and got my parka out of hibernation which can only mean one thing: Autumn is upon us and Winter is just around the corner! In turn, that means it’s time to swap all my clothes around! I’ve not worn a summer dress in weeks and my lightweight cardis aren’t doing the job so it’s time for a switch! I wrote about my capsule wardrobe tips before so wanted to share some inspiration for the Autumn switch over for anyone wanting to try it themselves.
For A/W jeans tend to feature heavily, purely because with two school runs to do they’re the easier option than a skirt that blows about or gets sodden in rain – and everything goes with jeans!
Topshop Leigh Jeans are a must for me. I first discovered these when I bought a pair with a maternity waistband in my first pregnancy – having not worn trousers or jeans for at least 5 years before then! You could say they were my ‘gateway’ jean into the trouser wearing world again and I’ve not looked back since! Super soft and very stretchy these are an essential and comfortable enough to lounge around at home in too unlike thicker more traditional denims.
I tend to have three pairs of jeans on rotation, in three different tones – black, dark denim and a lighter denim. I love the style of Mom jeans and I think they’d look good with high tops – I have three pairs of Nike Blazes that have been going for years and are my staple school-run shoe till it’s proper boot weather! I also love how ‘leather look’ leggings can make a really casual outfit look that little bit more ‘put together’ so will be including them in my ‘bottom half’ section too.
Jumpers are always a staple, especially when you live in a draughty old house like mine! When I get last years A/W jumpers out of their vacuum packed bag there are normally a couple that I have gone off in the 8 months since I last saw them so generally add 3 or 4 to the collection to have a choice of around six in my capsule wardrobe. Last year was all about animal print which is very much still in, but I wanted to add some berry tones and a slogan jumper too, as well aws classic stripes!
Accessories wise a blanket scarf, square scarf for casual draping plus a bobble hat is as far as I go – as I have a proper outdoorsy coat for winter walks and don’t have a commute other than the school run.
What are your Autumn & Winter staples? Have you thought about a capsule wardrobe at all? It really does make life easier when everything to choose from is hanging in one place and whatever you pick will go together!
