Athena’s Christening

christening
We had a private service by the Vicar that married us a year to the day before. After that we held the reception (is it called a reception if it’s not a wedding?) at The Grand (you can see the lovely we room we stayed in in this post) I was far too busy catching up with everyone to take photos of the food, but it seemed to go down well and looked pretty tasty too! I had a couple of Mojitos (with a cup of tea from fine china teacups in between so I didn’t get too raucous!) and we managed to eat the gigantic carrot cake I made too! The cake topper was hastily crafted the night before with washi tape and some ribbon I plaited together that was left over from my wedding bouquet.

I wanted a continuation of the bunting as simple decoration to add a bit of personality to the (rather regal) room we were in so we pinned some gorgeous floral themed Party Bunting up around the room, which was from Paper Themes.  This came ready cut and punched, with good quality ribbon to thread them with, and there was more than enough so that you could decide how to space the flags out as you wished. I’ve packed it all away carefully in the sturdy box it arrived in, and hope to decorate Athena’s room with at some point in the future!

Athena wore my traditional christening gown for the ceremony, and then I changed her into a little party frock from Boots Mini Club for the reception. The cream gown was hand made by my mum after I was born, but the bonnet didn’t fit Athena’s large noggin, however I was only 5lbs 11 at birth and was christened at 3 months, so was a lot smaller! We used the shawl she crocheted for me too. I’m not sure how she found the time to do all that with a new-born but I was relieved I didn’t have to attempt to make one and we got to re use a gown that’s almost 30 years old!

I wore a gorgeous cream dress which has hidden nursing panels for easy feeding, and a flattering shape. Unfortunately it wasn’t warm enough to lose the cardigan but I got a lot of compliments on the dress, and how it matched Athena’s cream gown! I wore my wedding shoes from Irregular Choice too, nice to wear them again!

Because of the way the fabric sits you really can’t see the feeding panels at all, it’s magical, see it in action above!
So after all that planning has come to an end, I guess I should start thinking about Christmas…
