There is no denying that winter is upon us, and along with it come red noses, colds and the need to wear socks, a personal pet-hate of mine! There are a lot of ways to make sure you keep warm at home, besides ramping the central heating up to top whack and bankrupting yourself when you have to pay the bill!
We’re lucky enough to live in a modern, purpose built flat and have someone beneath us which really helps to keep the place warm so we’re yet to have to actually turn the heating on (I know I am in the minority here though!) but we do a few things to ensure that we stay cosy to enable us to keep the heating off for a while longer yet! One of the easiest things to do is to keep your internal doors closed! Such a simple thing to do, but one my husband finds easy to forget, and I’m often heard saying “Close the DOOR! Were you born in a barn?” Yes, I have turned into my mother! But honestly, it works. It keeps the warmth in the room, and stops cold draughts from circulating their way around the house. You could even go one step further and get yourself a funky draught excluder (the sausage dog ones are my favourite!)
See, I told you it was simple! I’ve even trained the toddler to close doors after herself, though sometimes she shuts me or the baby on the other side and finds it hilarious…
British Gas have a load more Winter hacks on their blog The Source, there are some really simple things that are easy to start doing now! If you’ve got any tried and tested methods for keeping the cold out then please share them with me, or tweet them @BritishGas so they can share them too!
