Interiors: Creating Multi-functional storage spaces

Chances are, your home isn’t quite as big as you’d like it to be. Most families struggle for space in the home and it’s usually because they’re not making the best use of the space that they do have. One great way of finding more space in the home is creating multi-functional spaces. Some rooms can be used for more than one thing, which essentially doubles the amount of space that you’ve got. For example, if you’ve got a room upstairs that you’re using as a home office, that space is wasted a lot of the time. But if you could turn it into a guest room as well as an office, you can get a lot more space in the house. There are opportunities to do this all over the house but it’s quite tricky to get it right sometimes. If you’re trying to create multi-functional spaces in your home, here are some great tips to help you along.

Storage Is Key

When you’re trying to transform one room into a totally different one, you need to keep all of the stuff out of the way. For example, if you’re having guests stay in your home office, they don’t want to be sitting in amongst your laptop and all of your paperwork. That’s why clever storage is so key here. There are some great storage solutions like sofas with storage underneath the seats or ottomans as benches. If you do that, you can keep everything packed away and open up the space for other uses.

Fold Away Furniture

Clever furniture options are important too. For example, if you’ve got a large open plan living area and you want to use it as a dining room sometimes, putting a big table in there isn’t the best idea. When you’re not using it as a dining room, all of that space is wasted and you can’t use it for anything else. But if you’ve got foldaway furniture like a table that folds away and some collapsible chairs, you can open that space up easily if you need to.

Good Lighting

Lighting is a great, low cost way to create atmosphere in a room and that’s so important in multi functional spaces. For example, if you’ve got a kitchen dining area that you sometimes use for family meals and sometimes use for entertaining guests, being able to change the atmosphere is key. Some great luxury lighting can help you to do that easily. Have some bright main lighting for evening meals and then a few lamps with warm bulbs to create a more relaxed atmosphere for entertaining guests in the evening.

Keep It Tidy

A room that only has one function gets messy enough, but if it has multiple uses, you’re going to have a lot of clutter to battle with. If you don’t keep on top of the tidying properly, you’re going to end up with a room that is filled with junk and you won’t be able to use it for anything at all, if that’s the case then an off-site  self storage  unit would be ideal for you  for all the things you can’t find a good home for  in the house!

Stick to these simple rules and you’ll be able to create brilliant multi-functional rooms in your home with ease!
