Interiors: What Are The Most Durable Floors?

When buying a new floor, there are lots of factors that influence our decision and one of the main ones is the durability! How long is your flooring going to hold up against the wear and tear of everyday life? This is especially important if have kids or pets! By looking at the pros and cons of each flooring, it’ll hopefully make your decision a bit easier.

Wood

One of or perhaps the most popular flooring options available, it’s no secret that wood flooring has unbeatable durability. Solid or engineered wood are the two options – both of which will last for a long time if cared for properly. Solid wood is likely to last for a lifetime if cared for properly as well.

The only concern with wood is that it is susceptible to scratches, stains and water – so be careful with rooms that see high exposure to this! However, if damage does occur, then you can sand it down and refinish it to remove any damage. This can be done a number of times and doesn’t normally need to be done for the first 15-20 years, so you can only imagine how long these gorgeous floors can last for!

Laminate

Although wood is highly durable, not all of us can afford to splash out on its magnificence, which is why cheaper alternatives have been produced!

Although man made, laminate has been produced to mimic natural products such as real wood and stone so well that it’s almost impossible to tell it apart from the real thing! Although it doesn’t quite match up to wood’s longevity, it’s a close contender and will certainly last a substantial amount of time! It is also resistant to stains, scratches and water suitable for those rooms that see a lot of foot traffic such as the kitchen. However, if laminate does get damaged then the whole thing will need to be replaced, so just be aware of this.

Luxury Vinyl Tiles

Forget the outdated, ugly viny of the 1970s, vinyl has been revolutionised to create the highly sophisticated luxury vinyl tiles. Its biggest feature is that it is resistant to stains, scratches and water ideal for bathrooms and kitchens. Additionally, it is very easy to clean with amazing durability. Although it will need to be replaced if it gets damaged, but damaging it is nigh on impossible! It is certainly a very durable product and the perfect choice if you want something totally carefree.

As discussed, there’s a choice for everyone, no matter your budget or personal taste.
