Travel: A weekend in the Lake District with Sally’s Cottages

12th October 201810th February 2020

I really needed last weekend after a stressful few weeks; comfortable surroundings to relax in, stunning scenery to enjoy and a group of lovely people to spend time with. Also, no kids! I spent the weekend with eight lovely ladies, many who I knew well and a couple of people I’d not met before –… Read More

Travel: Caalm Camp Glamping in Dorset

17th March 201810th February 2020

I don’t think there are many mums who woke up on Mother’s Day in a yurt, but I was one of them as we had a weekend away in Dorset last week. There is a lovely peaceful atmosphere at Caalm Camp, a campsite with six large circular yurts, all built in a traditional Mongolian style,… Read More

Travel: Loch Ness Cruise, Urquhart Castle and Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness

16th January 201810th February 2020

We started off our morning after a hot cup of tea sat on the decking overlooking the gorgeous views talking about our night the night before, where we managed to stay up till gone 1am drinking rosé and playing Cards Against Humanity…  then it was time for a gorgeous cooked breakfast thanks to Laura and… Read More

Travel: Eagle Brae, Scottish Highlands

15th January 201810th February 2020

There is nothing quite like the peacefulness and sense of calm that washes over you the further you head into the Scottish Highlands, the air feels different, the light is different and it is just wonderful. I spent part of last week staying in the luxurious Aquila, one of the traditional log cabins at Eagle… Read More

Travel: Two days in Brighton with Jurys Inn

23rd August 201710th February 2020

Brighton is amazing, I love it as a city so much; it’s vibrant, unique, there is so much to do and I’ll never get bored of it. It’s just a shame that having kids meant we were priced out of the market when it came to buying in the city! I lived right in the… Read More

Sunday Scrapbook: The Dorset, Brighton & Storage wars

20th August 201710th February 2020
The Dorset Lewes

Hello! Long time no see, or it feels like it anyway! I didn’t do a Sunday Scrapbook post last week as there wasn’t a great deal to report that I wasn’t already writing about and I just sort of fancied a week off! We went to Wakehurst with my mum last weekend for her birthday… Read More

Travel: Exploring Oxford & the Jurys Inn Hotel

14th August 201710th February 2020
Oxford-Jurys-Inn

Last week we hot-footed it up the A23, past London and on to Oxford. Oxford is a city that I have always wanted to explore, I have vague recollections of visiting it as a young teenager on a day out with my Dad but I honestly can’t remember what we did or where we went!… Read More

Travel: Riverside Cottage in Hampshire

3rd July 201710th February 2020
Travel-Riverside-Hampshire

Down a leafy lane in Hampshire round a bend in the road a yurt will come into view, with lavender fields beyond. Behind you, there’s a thatched cottage, nestled in amongst a large and lovely garden. Over the lane is a private stretch of river, peaceful and serene.  Riverside Cottage is where I spent two… Read More

Exploring Literary London with Kids

16th April 201710th February 2020
exploring literary london with kids

I adore London, always have and probably always will do and have written a few posts about visiting London in the past (here on the London Eye, and here on a river cruise most recently) though I don’t think I’d ever want to live there if I’m honest! The hustle and bustle is great for a few days… Read More

A Night at the Marwell Hotel

12th April 201710th February 2020

We visited Marwell Zoo & Paultons Park on adjacent days for Arlo’s birthday, so a hotel that was close by was a must to avoid a drive home between visits and Marwell Hotel was perfectly located and meant that we could check in within minutes of leaving Zoo as the hotel is directly opposite the… Read More

We would've done another walk today (Sam had a day off today too) but our boiler is kaput and we didn't want to come home to a cold house so we stayed in and shivered on the sofa instead!
Also before you come at me for getting in the car to drive to exercise: we live in a flat with no garden on a busy road- we could walk to the beach but I can guarantee we would have seen LOTS of people on pavements on the way and then hundreds (literally - the prom is so busy!) at the beach. Much as I love 'jumper season' I'm over this frost Much as I love 'jumper season' I'm over this frost. Our boiler sounds like it's struggling as it whines more than Arlo does when he hasn't eaten in an hour. Much like the rest of you I imagine, I'm feeling a bit numb and fed up right now. I also can't shake this cold/cough (been tested, not covid) and it's been lingering for 3+ weeks now. I fall asleep at the drop of a hat too, like a little old lady and find it hard to get up in the mornings. I just want spring time, normality energy and clear nasal passages IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

I've been outside more today than I have for the f I've been outside more today than I have for the for past week. We've basically been hibernating since Christmas eve apart from the odd trip to the shop up the road. Today I walked round Devils Dyke with a friend early in the morning and then went to the beach in the afternoon for the kids to let off some steam. The sun setting was gorgeous and it made me realise I'd missed the sea as I'd not been in ages! Anyway, one more day at home tomorrow (inset day for us!) And hopefully back to school Tuesday but we'll see. For us its the right decision as my children thrive on routine, and I thrive on being able to work without distraction or having to try and teach them!

Happy New Year!

What day is it? What's the date? Pass the tin of c What day is it? What's the date? Pass the tin of celebrations please? When did Arlo get so good at putting Lego sets together on his own? Is this the first year I didn't get a book for Christmas? Should we actually leave the house at some point? Can I be bothered to stay up and ring in the new year? When will we be able to see our friends? How long will tier 4 last? Will there be a 5? How many cups of tea have I had today? When will the cat stop attacking our ankles? Is it okay to take the tree down today? But can I leave the lights up round the picture rail forever?

Answers on a postcard please. Hope you're all okay.
