If you’ve got kids there’s no way you haven’t seen or at least heard about How to Train your Dragon. My kids really love it and it’s one of the few films I suggest that they’ll both agree to first time. There’s a new addition to How to Train your Dragon toys and that’s Hatching Toothless. It’s an egg that hatches an interactive baby Toothless- with movement, lights and sound.
About How to Train your Dragon
Hiccup is a Norse teenager from the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. His progressive views and weird sense of humor make him a misfit, despite the fact that his father is chief of the clan. Tossed into dragon-fighting school, he endeavors to prove himself as a true Viking, but when he befriends an injured dragon he names Toothless, he has the chance to plot a new course for his people’s future.
How to hatch Baby Toothless
This toy was an immediate hit with my two and they were both so invested in hatching baby toothless carefully. When you take the egg out of the box you instigate the hatching process by removing two tags at the base of the egg. Then you’ll start to hear noises and movements from within. By tapping, stroking and shaking the egg you’ll start to wake up the baby dragon within. After a few minutes Athena noticed a crack in the egg, and in under ten minutes the crack was big enough for the kids to help Toothless leave his shell! I’ve popped a video at the end of this post of the un hatching process and some of the play-modes.
Once out there were a lot of ‘oohs’ and ‘he is SO CUTE’s and after a brief flick through the instructions I was able to start guiding the kids through the 7 (yes- seven!) play modes. You switch between these by rotating a little dial on the base of the dragon. There is no on/off switch or volume dial but you can put him to sleep by laying him on his side or by ignoring him for long enough! The volume isn’t obnoxiously loud either.
What can you do with Baby Toothless?
- Teach Toothless how to fly and plasma blast!
- Roar and hear him roar back at you
- Ask him yes or no questions and her his response
- ‘feed’ him his fish and see him make munchy noises
- teach him to ‘fly ‘ and see his wings move
- Play music and see him dance
- put him to sleep so he snores
Hatching Toothless Baby Dragon requires batteries to run: 2x AA, The toy does come with batteries included but advises to change them after hatching is complete we’ve not done this and he’s still going strong! We’ve kept the lower half of the egg as a ‘home’ for him to sleep in.
