What the toddler read: Halloween Childrens Books

5th October 201510th February 2020

So at the end of the month we have Halloween, which seems to rapidly becoming more and more celebrated over here in England! This month we’ve been reading ‘Pumpkins,  Pumpkins, Everywhere’ from Parragon books. It’s a cute story that covers feelings and emotions and actions in simple terms, in a nice rhyming way. The pages… Read More

What the toddler read: Read on and Get on campaign with Costa

19th September 201510th February 2020

‘Read On. Get On.’ have a mission to ensure that every child leaves primary school at 11 being able to read by the year 2025. It makes me sad to think that there are children out there that don’t know the glory of getting lost in a good book, of sneaking the light back on… Read More

What the children read – A Collection of Nursery Rhymes

11th September 201510th February 2020

I’m not sure i’ve mentioned yet but we were picked to be Parragon Book Buddies a little while ago, which was amazing news as you can never have enough books and I hope to instill a love of books in my children like my parents did with me! Our first book is a gorgeous one,… Read More

What the Baby read: A cat called Panda

23rd June 201523rd February 2020

“Are you a panda?” asked young Amanda. “No, I’m a cat, it’s as simple as that.”   A Cat called Panda is possibly the sweetest book I’ve read to Athena yet. Not only is it a lovely story but the illustrations are divine! Written by Melanie Arora and illustrated by Charlie Brandon-King, it’s full of… Read More

What the baby read: Peter Rabbit Collection

20th June 201410th February 2020

Okay so perhaps the title of this post should be ‘what mama read to the baby’ but I have been really loving revisiting these  classics as our bedtime stories recently. We were sent the library of Peter Rabbit classics from The Works, who have stores dotted about the country and a really well stocked… Read More

What the baby read: Weather & Zoos

29th May 201410th February 2020

Now Athena is becoming a lot more interested in books I’m seeking out titles that are more interactive for her. Pop up books are still not quite safe to be left with her for solo ‘reading’ sessions but good for our before bed reading times when we’re together. These two books were sent to us… Read More

What the baby read: Owls and Tigers

30th January 201410th February 2020

I love reading to Athena. I think sometimes I read for her more than for me, but I’m alright with that because I get to find some new children’s books and rediscover some of my old favourites! For the first post in this series I’m going to talk about the three that we (or I!)… Read More

Longleat festival of light was a nice way to do it because we got to see gorillas, red pandas, crocodiles and lots more AND the light trail once it got dark. Plus we got to feed sealions and see an Owl show. However back to real life and work and not feeling that festive again. I think it'll help when people start putting lights up on their houses. Haven't really thought about presents for the kids, putting out own tree up (obvs not till December anyway!) or anything else festive-y!

Swipe for various light up things, a massive (singing) tree and animals 🦍🐊❤️

This 8 week long half term can DO ONE. So fed up with literally pushing Athena out of bed in the morning because she's slept through her alarm. The sheer amount of organising involved when they reach secondary is nuts... All the different apps, the endless requests for money (by school, not her!) the stress of running out of data when your train ticket is on your phone... The stress of the trains being up the spout, the massive amounts of homework (that the parent app helpfully tells us is not complete even when it is and 'youll know if your child didn't complete it as they'll get a consequence mark' - this hasn't happened because she's a conscientious kid but it means we need to look at Google classroom on top of the bloody shit app!)

Let's not mention spending 60 quid on shoes that gave her blisters so bad on both feet she was hobbling.

Aaaaargh. Will enjoy a week off from it all, even though I've not got any time off work myself 🙈

Athena had had a brilliant birthday today, a waterpark & exploring sand dunes - as well as basically a week of celebrations (well actually a month - as we gave her a main present of a new Fender acoustic a month ago today so she could use it in her lessons).
Still amazes me that she's off to secondary school in about 12 weeks, she reached the top of the waiting list for our top choice school this week and we gave her the option to accept it if she wanted to but she is adamant that the school she was awarded (2nd choice) is where she wants to go - even though she doesnt know a soul going there and half her current cohort are going to the other school! She knows her mind and she's not afraid to be out of her comfort zone 🥰🤩 #eleventoday #beautifulbirthdaygirl
