Everyday Us: Arlo & Things with Wheels

19th January 201710th February 2020

Despite having access to all sorts of toys, cuddly ones, dolls, stacking things, Duplo, Little People imagination toys and loads more Arlo is always drawn to anything with wheels. I know people say cars are not just for boys (and I agree, obviously) but there really does seem to be some inherent draw to toy… Read More

Everyday Us: Magic Lightbulbs

5th November 201621st December 2017

Athena thinks that Daddy is magic. Daddy actually isn’t magic at all, but he has been using his phone to turn on and off the light bulbs in our house (we have ‘hive’ running our lights and heating) without Athena knowing. She thinks it is the best thing ever that he can point at the… Read More

A new start: Preschool & Childminder

12th September 201610th February 2020

Athena hasn’t been at nursery since the end of May, she’s been going since she was 12 months old and absolutely loved it all; the messy play, the friends, the garden and the staff. We took the decision to take her out just after she turned three because although she loved it there and it… Read More

Everyday Us: Athena and her best friend

11th September 201610th February 2020

Athenas best friend is the daughter of one of my best friends and they were born exactly a year apart, Athena is the younger of the two but they are about the same height. When I think back to when she was about three days old and her parents came over to visit this… Read More

Everyday Us: Phone calls

6th August 201614th August 2016

Phone calls are something that both my kids love to emulate. Whenever Arlo has the chance to grab my phone he will do, smacking it against the side of his head (often the wrong way round) and shout ‘ellooooo’. It is really cute!

Everyday Us – Bubble Wrap

25th June 201621st June 2016

Who doesn’t like bubble wrap? It’s one of the little things that gives me pleasure whenever I come across some! A couple of weeks back during the chicken pox quarantine we got a parcel with some of the larger bubbles in helping to protect everything and Athena yanked it out of the box straight away… Read More

Everyday Us – Ice lollies

18th June 201610th February 2020

I love ice cream, and it looks like my two have taken after me! Athena has always been a fan of the lovely stuff as a pudding (pizza Hut ice cream machines are her fave!) But we rarely get to enjoy a proper ice lolly, mainly because they’re so messy to eat at home!

Everyday Us: Rhyme Time Mischief

5th June 201510th February 2020

A couple of weeks ago I headed to the Library with Athena for toddler rhyme time. Obviously Arlo was with us but was happily snoozing in the sling. For the uninitiated Rhyme Time is a few nursery rhymes with actions and a story, led by an overly enthusiastic library worker (well, four at our local… Read More

Everyday Us: Being a Big Sister

11th May 201510th February 2020

A couple of weeks after Arlo arrived I got a bit gushy on Instagram about how proud I was of Athena and how well she’d taken to her new role of ‘Big Sister’. A few weeks down the line that still stands. So far there has been no hint of jealousy, even when I am… Read More

Much as I love 'jumper season' I'm over this frost Much as I love 'jumper season' I'm over this frost. Our boiler sounds like it's struggling as it whines more than Arlo does when he hasn't eaten in an hour. Much like the rest of you I imagine, I'm feeling a bit numb and fed up right now. I also can't shake this cold/cough (been tested, not covid) and it's been lingering for 3+ weeks now. I fall asleep at the drop of a hat too, like a little old lady and find it hard to get up in the mornings. I just want spring time, normality energy and clear nasal passages IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

I've been outside more today than I have for the f I've been outside more today than I have for the for past week. We've basically been hibernating since Christmas eve apart from the odd trip to the shop up the road. Today I walked round Devils Dyke with a friend early in the morning and then went to the beach in the afternoon for the kids to let off some steam. The sun setting was gorgeous and it made me realise I'd missed the sea as I'd not been in ages! Anyway, one more day at home tomorrow (inset day for us!) And hopefully back to school Tuesday but we'll see. For us its the right decision as my children thrive on routine, and I thrive on being able to work without distraction or having to try and teach them!

Happy New Year!

What day is it? What's the date? Pass the tin of c What day is it? What's the date? Pass the tin of celebrations please? When did Arlo get so good at putting Lego sets together on his own? Is this the first year I didn't get a book for Christmas? Should we actually leave the house at some point? Can I be bothered to stay up and ring in the new year? When will we be able to see our friends? How long will tier 4 last? Will there be a 5? How many cups of tea have I had today? When will the cat stop attacking our ankles? Is it okay to take the tree down today? But can I leave the lights up round the picture rail forever?

Answers on a postcard please. Hope you're all okay.
Walking in a winter-muddy-land. So this is Christm Walking in a winter-muddy-land. So this is Christmas. Tier 4 beckons on boxing day for us and so many others, which has rather scuppered our plans to meet up with friends for outside strolls in that bit between Christmas and New Year. So we're doing it today instead whilst its still allowed. Amazingly Sam has five days off work now, although he may well do some overtime at some point seeing as he's at home anyway 😒
I hope everyone has the best day they can despite it being the weirdest Christmas at the end of the strangest year. HO HO HO and all that! 🎄🤶🎅🎁
